Abstract

Data center is an excellent power-consuming load in current public service. According to the rapid upgrading rate, the traditional power supplement based on fossil fuels have some side effects like efficiency and environmental influence. Because of its feasibility and low environmental impact, renewable energy is regarded as an ideal substitute for fossil fuels, and it is used as the energy of the data center. This paper aims to explore the application potential of renewable energy in data center operation, which is mainly based on solar energy. The current generated by the photovoltaic panel and the working current of the data center is both direct current (DC). With the application of solar energy, power loss during the conversion between the power grid and data center could be avoided. The second part of this paper is the application example of solar energy utilization in the Tencent T-Block data center.
